The truth of the New Birth makes us free.

Truth defined:

that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality

There is truth which must match reality.

Here are some common truths:

These are scientific truths – and to deny them is error.

The Earth is round

The Bible is True

For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

Psalm 33:4

There is truth and there is also error.

We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1 John 4:6

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 16:25

It seems right but it’s really wrong –
It seems like Truth but it’s really Error.

The Word of God is Right and Truth

  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  • And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of

    the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

  • John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after

    me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

  • And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

  • For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Truth came when God
became a man in Jesus Christ

The things that Jesus said are the Truth

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 3:1-7

Jesus told Nicademous, you must be born again.

You must be born of the water

You must be born of the Spirit

Both are required in order to be Born Again.

how are we born of the water?

Baptism is how we are born of the Water

John preached repentance and baptism and Jesus was baptized.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

Mark 1:4-9


The truth of the necessity of the New Birth Baptism was demonstrated by Jesus.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?


And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Matthew 3:13-15

Jesus had no need of repentance because He was sinless. But He still demonstrated to us the necessity of Baptism to fulfill righteousness.

how are we born of spirit?

By receiving the Holy Ghost

John told us that Jesus would give us the Holy Ghost.

We are born again when we:

are Baptized in Jesus Name

Then Jesus told us about the Holy Ghost.

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

John 7:37-39


The Holy Ghost could not be given until Jesus was glorified. Jesus talked about a time where he would be glorified.

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.


And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

John 17:1-4

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Hebrew 2:9-10

After Jesus was glorified then the promise of the Holy Ghost was given

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Acts 1:4-5

On the day of pentecost, the holy ghost was given

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.


And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:1-4

Jesus told us we must be born again

The disciple of Jesus, Peter, told us exactly how to be born again in Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.


For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Acts 2:38-39

THE TRUTH

True Repentance is turning away from sin

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Acts 17:30

True evidence of receiving of the Holy Ghost is by speaking in tongues.

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Acts 10:45-47

True Baptism is in Jesus Name (Acts 2:38)

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Acts 22:16

Repentance, Baptism in Jesus Name, and Receiving the Holy Ghost are the New Birth Experience

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

True Baptism is all the way under the water because we are burying our old sins.

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:4

The New Birth is the Truth that leads to everlasting life

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8: 31-32
